Customer Challenge. Many customers have invested planning and infrastructure on enterprise search applications such as Autonomy. The proliferation of SharePoint and other document management platforms such as Meridio have created islands of data that these tool have no way of gaining access to—as the software cannot retrieve all of the content with a simple web or database crawl. Therefore, search utilities quickly become stale as more users migrate into the portal environment.
Business Challenge. Enterprise collaboration and document management suites store content (such as lists and documents), user profile information, Meta attributes and access control list (ACLs) in different type of content. Any application using these sources must provide the ability to comply with the security when end users query for content as it is applied within the product suite.
To increase the scalability of the customer environment, the content extraction must have the ability to run on a platform without the need of a server installation to support it. If new content extraction needs arise, there must be a path to implementation within the current framework. With PKI authentication models becoming more prevalent, the architecture must support PKI authentication scheme in combination with standards username/password models.
Solution. MicroLink’s Fetch Framework provides the ability to extract all relevant information when loaded directly on the server or using remote operations. The architecture imposes no limitations as to where the extraction process must be run.
Using MicroLink’s intricate knowledge of the SharePoint and Meridio platforms the providers for these platforms contain the ability to extract and apply content ACLs on a per item basis.
MicroLink's Fetch Framework supports a pluggable provider model allowing the ability to create and implement custom providers in any .NET language. This architecture allows developers to focus on the implementation of the content extraction while leveraging the integrated scheduling and job management embedded in the platform.
The Fetch Framework provides support for PKI authentication out of the box for both SharePoint and traditional web content extraction.
