Project. Business Process Management Portal
Customer Background. The mission of OSD’s Business Transformation Agency (BTA) is to guide the transformation of business operations throughout the Department of Defense and to deliver Enterprise-level capabilities that align to warfighter needs. Their vision is to be the driving force in the acceleration of improvements to business operations across the Department of Defense. Additionally, BTA attracts talented, dedicated professionals—creating a model for business transformation leadership across the entire Federal Government.
Business Challenge. BTA was unsatisfied with their current business portal implementation. They found no viable solution using the SharePoint Portal Server that could provide single signon capability utilizing DoD PKI CAC cards as the primary user authentication mechanism.
Solution. As a first step, MicroLink professionals conducted user interviews to gain a full understanding the customer’s requirements. This effort included meeting with technical and business process staff. During this process, MicroLink professionals discovered that business processes were an integral part of BTA’s portal. Requirements were documented and approved by the client.
MicroLink Professionals designed a robust portal with a workflow solution that provided automated, asynchronous workflows with as little user intervention as possible. The portal was developed using Microsoft’s SharePoint Portal Server and BizTalk Server products along with existing MicroLink user productivity tools.
The final portal developed by MicroLink resulted in the client having the ability to leverage business process workflows, single sign-on and auto-account provisioning.
